The 1975 - The City

Manchester four-piece The 1975 release the second music video from their recently released debut EP 'Facedown'. It corresponds to their lead track 'The City' which follows their video for the title track. The EP was released on Monday (August 6th 2012).
The video, directed by James Booth, has the brilliant touch of classic rock; a black and white performance based feature reminiscent of early punk and indie band videos. The Britishness of their sound is strongly emphasised through the slightly gritty vocal which is accompanied by the low rumbling that is the drum and basslines. There's also a modern feel to the electronic tune, yet the track retains the archetypal characteristics of the classic rock sound which they strive for. The 1975 truly show an understanding and respect for the musical culture of their town with heavy influences from Manchester bands Joy Division and New Order.
'The City' has already been favoured on a handful of radio stations, receiving plays from BBC Radio 1, XFM, NME, Q Radio and Kerrang! Radio. This isn't surprising given the intensity of the band's lyrical genius; though, what else can you expect from avid readers of Bertrand Russell, Jack Kerouac and Akbar Del Piombo?
