London-based singer-songwriter Sam Brookes has unveiled an evocative video for his new single 'James' which features on his new album 'Kairos', due to be self-released on March 17th 2014 in the midst of his UK Spring tour.
The video appears to be old film footage with poor colour featuring two young boys playing in the wood, one wearing a Native American headpiece and one wearing a coonskin cap. Together they spend their time fishing with nets in a stream and reading comics in cramped cave. It reflects the friend-related lyrics of the song and reinforces the cheery country vibe of the song itself. It's a simple acoustic number that may feel joyful, but the harmonised vocals give it a melancholy undercurrent.
Sam Brookes has previously admitted that music has been a huge part of his life since he was a young boy with influences such as Joni Mitchell, Bert Jansch and Davy Graham, as well his own father. He has just rounded off his UK tour with Newton Faulkner which came about following his self-titled debut album release. He'll be heading out on his own headline tour this month, kicking off his Spring dates in Westgate-On-Sea and rounding them off a month later in Cardiff.
