Berlin singer Miss Kenichi (aka Katrin Hahner) has unleashed a video for her newest single 'Who Are You'; the first to be taken from her upcoming album 'The Trail'. The single will hit shelves on June 30th 2014 but the album will not be released until October.
The video for the track is visually enchanting and refreshingly uncomplicated. It appears to progress in time with the vocals and features a strange animated diagram, like the ones used to depict constellations, spreading over images of leafy branches. We also see the diagram spidering to create human forms as Katrin repeatedly sings "Who are you?" There's a whimsical element to this kaleidoscopic set-up made all the more hypnotic by the sultry, hushed vocals reminiscent of Warpaint and simple guitar riffs layered with a minimal synth buzz.
'Who Are You' featured on the soundtrack to German drama film 'Free Fall' directed by Stephan Lacant; a film which won several awards for its candid depiction of the struggles of same-sex attraction. With all the elements of the composition, the video and the film, it's clear that this song is sending a strong message about personal growth and self-discovery. Miss Kenichi will soon release her third album following previous two albums 'Collision Time' and 'Fox'.
