Hamburg band In Golden Tears release their second single Underneath the Balance on 30th April 2012 through Rough Trade/Humming Records. A limited edition 7" vinyl and digital download was available from the 23rd. Following their debut single Urban Emotions, Underneath the Balance is equally as dark and melancholy; the breathy sound of Patrick H. Kowalewski giving us a serious case of goosebumps .
The video for the song is a slow-mo mosaic of different themes; romance, race, loneliness and (quite prominently) death; as we see people in conflict as metaphorical chess pieces, blindfolded children, butterflies being burned and the burial of a lifeless bird - a macabre montage of imagery quite possibly representing the world as we know it.
With Patrick H. Kowalewski on lead vocals and guitar, Mats Dörband on bass, Patrick Behrens on vocals/guitar, Robin Shaw on drums and Max Schild on keyboard/synth, In Golden Tears presents an enthralling mix of heavy basslines, hollow drum beats and the distinctive synth twangs - a unique sound that's a far cry from the stereotypical German bands such as Tokio Hotel and Rammstein!
In Golden Tears are in the UK next month for Brighton's Great Escape festival following immense success in Germany. They will play alongside Booka Shade, Mystery Jets, Dry The River, Gaz Coombes, We Are Scientists and We Are The Ocean. IGT are also confirmed to be playing at the Sziget festival in Budapest, Hungary.
