Gaggle - Army Of Birds
All-female, 21-member, electronic choir Gaggle will release their new single 'Army of Birds' on May 21st prior to the release of their debut album 'From the Mouth of the Cave' on June 4th on Transgressive Records (Noisettes, Pulled Apart By Horses).
The 'Army of Birds' video features an abstract animated drawing of several female heads which is bizarrely hypnotic to watch. The image zooms out throughout the song as if in sync with the building crescendo of the visceral music. The song is slightly reminiscent of the nineties Riot Grrrl movement which was initially feminist punk; although Gaggle deny being a feminist collective in terms of positive discrimination.
As well as a new album, alternative choir Gaggle are to be playing their first headline gig of 2012 at Village Underground, London, on July 4th. They will also stage a series of twelve other events in the city - one for each album track. The album is written by lead singer Deborah Coughlin and Simon Dempsey.
Gaggle are truly a unique and innovative addition to music combining electronic instruments and percussion with their diverse vocal range and embodying such a variety of musical genres that it's a struggle to categorise them anywhere.
