The mid 1990's was a breakthrough time for medicine when drugs strong enough to stabilise HIV and AIDS were developed and the disease no longer meant that people had to die. Tragically, the places where the disease was most prevalent in Africa were completely vetoed from obtaining the drug and so millions upon millions of people died. Even when it was made clear that cheaper versions of the drug could be developed, the US prevented their use in a categorically cruel scheme that placed money way over humanity. 'Fire In The Blood' tells the story of how the pharmaceutical companies of the Western world, along with their governments, proved that they were not averse to the sacrificing of millions of lives if it kept the economy stable. It features contributions from the likes of former President Bill Clinton, bishop Desmond Tutu and American economist Joseph Stiglitz with an appearance from Nelson Mandela as he supports the martyrdom of one AIDS sufferer who refuses to get help until the drugs are available to everyone.
'Fire In The Blood' is a moving and intense historical documentary detailing the effects of the what has been dubbed 'the crime of a century' at the hands of the American government. It has been directed and written by Dylan Mohan Gray in his directorial debut and will be screened at selected UK cinemas from February 22nd 2013.
