Shira Mendelman is 18-years-old and filled with excitement at the prospect of an arranged marriage with what sounds like her dream partner. She is the youngest daughter in a Hasidic Jewish family in Tel Aviv and the child of the highly respected Rabbi Aharon. However, just as the family's happiness reaches a peak, her older sister Esther dies suddenly while giving birth to her first child. Consumed with grief, widower Yohai is forced to consider a second marriage, though as his sights set on a woman outside of Israel who is also a widow, the Mendelmans risk losing their only granddaughter. In a bid to kill two birds with one stone, it is suggested that Yohai marry Shira despite her heart being set on a man her own age. She is forced to confront herself and make the life-changing decision to live her life the way she chooses, or please her family in the way that is expected of her.
