Denmark-based singer/songwriter Filip is making waves with his debut EP 'House of Cards'; a hit at number three on the Danish iTunes album chart; and now he reveals what went into each of the five tracks in a new interview.
He explains that the title track was written alongside Andy Wright and Sam Swallow and is pretty much made up of three piano chords, but it's with 'Telepathy' that he really started opening up. '[It's] about me being bad at expressing my emotions and being bad at having a conversation', he reveals. He adds that 'Lady Luck' inspired a 'Mexican feel', while 'My Heart is Filled With You' was one of the first songs he ever wrote. 'I actually wrote it on my way home from town one day where I was kind of caught in a miserable moment', he explains. 'I was quite emotional.' However, his hands down favourite track, he admits, is the experimental number 'In the Basement', which is 'inspired by music from southern Europe'.
The 17-year-old worked with Grammy winning producer Andy Wright on the EP at Southwest Studios in London over a period of four months, in between Filip's schooling back home. After gaining the attention of James Blunt with his acoustic track 'My Heart is Filled With You', he supported the popstar on his Moon Landing World Tour. 'Supporting James Blunt was surreal, one minute I was studying at school, then the next I'm on stage (performing songs I'd written in my bedroom) to five thousand people!' He previously recalled.
'These songs are about personal experiences that I've found easier to express in lyrics and music, than talk about in person', he adds. 'Working with world class producers and musicians has been an awesome experience.'
He now prepares to embark on yet another tour, supporting Simply Red as they hit Scandinavia in October 2015. He also has a handful of dates lined up in the Summer for London and Denmark.
