One of the worst examples of race discrimination America has ever seen, the shooting of black 17-year-old on November 23rd 2012 shook the nation. When Jordan Davis and his three friends drove in to a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida to buy gum and cigarettes, they were confronted by 45-year-old Michael Dunn who fired ten shots, fatally injuring Davis, after just three and a half minutes. His wife testified that a disagreement began over the loud rap music playing in the car, which he described as 'thug music', and he was later charged with murder despite claiming self-defence. Echoing the shooting of Trayvon Martin earlier that year, this case brought to attention once again the disastrous effects of race prejudice that continues to haunt the US.
'3 1/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets' is a shocking documentary detailing the events of November 23rd 2012; exploring how doubt was cast over four black teenagers just because of their race, despite them being the ultimate victims. It has been directed by Marc Silver (W'ho is Dayani Cristal?', 'When Loud Music Turned Deadly') and features some exclusive footage from the court trial of Dunn, police interrogations and police phone calls; including some depressingly telling 911 calls.
