Classical musician-turned-professional skier Vanessa-Mae has become embroiled in a race-fixing scandal in Slovenia amid allegations competition results were rigged to enable the star to qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The British violinist took a hiatus from music in 2013 to pursue her sporting dreams by competing for her father's native Thailand at the Sochi Games in Russia.
However, her new career didn't quite go to plan as she finished last in the Women's Giant Slalom event during her Olympic debut in February (14).
Now it has emerged that Vanessa-Mae may not have even made the cut for the Olympics as her race results at a lead-up event in Slovenia in January (14) had been falsely recorded.
Bosses at the Slovenian Ski Association announced on Friday (11Jul14) that four sporting officials had been suspended after they uncovered evidence to suggest her slalom times and rankings had been "fixed at the behest of Thai ski officials to meet her qualifying criteria for Sochi".
Organisation president Jurji Zurej adds, "We must state clearly that there is absolutely no proof any athlete including Vanessa was (knowingly) involved in any activities that would breach any of our rules or those of Fis (International Ski Federation)."
Vanessa-Mae, full name Vanessa-Mae Vanakorn Nicholson, has yet to comment on the controversy.
