Mexican singer Valentin Elizalde was murdered on Saturday (25NOV06) when the van he was travelling in was ambushed by an armed gang. The 29-year-old was leaving an open-air festival in the Mexican border town of Reynosa when bullets were fired at his van; killing him, manager MARIO MENDOZA and driver RAYMUNDO BALLESTEROS. Local police are yet to confirm precise details about the killings or any motive behind the attack. Elizalde was best known for an accordion-based style of music known as norteno. His death is being mourned by thousands of fans.
