CHEECH + CHONG star Tommy Chong has slammed US President George W Bush and his conservative administration for sending him to jail for selling water pipes.
The star was sentenced to nine months in prison for conspiring to send the merchandise across state lines.
He explains, "I wasn't selling anything. The only thing I did wrong was have my face on the bong. They were glass water pipes. Bong is a Vietnamese word for water pipe.
"They showed me a law that was passed when (BILL) CLINTON was president that made it illegal to have, possess, use, think about, maybe have in your hand, anything that could resemble anything that you could use to smoke an illegal substance.
"No state in the union prosecuted the law except Pennsylvania, the home of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) and Iowa, the home of Bush idiots."
Chong was caught during a sting operation set up by the DEA where they placed an undercover agent in the water pipe factory and had the bongs shipped to Pennsylvania.
The Up in Smoke star has moved on to other interesting entrepreneurial endeavours since his incarceration, adding, "I had to quit the bong business.
"My wife and I, we tour around and do comedy shows and we sell Chong thongs (G-stings) - they've got my face on them - the beard kinds of blends in!"
The CHEECH + CHONG star, who is famous for marijuana-fuelled movies like Up in Smoke, will direct SENOR DRACULA after learning all about the history of Lugosi's 1931 film DRACULA.
He tells the ComingSoon.com website, "When they made Bela Lugosi's Dracula, at night they made a Spanish version. It's good, but it's more of a backdrop to another little story I want to tell, and I'm going to direct that."
The acting pair co-starred in a series of movies - including Up in Smoke and CHEECH AND CHONG'S NEXT MOVIE - from the late seventies to the mid eighties, and often mirrored the hedonistic behaviour of their characters between takes.
However, ultimately they concluded the mind-altering practice was better kept away from their professional lives.

Funnyman Tommy Chong is still giggling about the night drug authorities raided his home - even though the rude awakening led to his arrest and a nine month jail spell.
The Up in Smoke actor, who was released from prison in California last week (ends09JUL04), served nine months in prison "camp" for selling drug paraphernalia across state lines. And he still thinks the authorities were a little heavy handed when it came to his 2001 arrest.
He explains, "They came busting in early in the morning. They were banging on the door... I looked out and I seen all these guys with helmets and visors and guns. Weird. It felt like trick or treat, or something.

Stoner funnymen CHEECH + CHONG are teaming up for another movie just days after Tommy Chong's release from jail.
Chong, who spent nine months behind bars in Bakersfield, California, on a drug paraphernalia rap, admits he learned so much in prison that he has enough material for a hilarious new film with his Up in Smoke partner Cheech Marin.
Chong reveals he met "some of the funniest guys" while he was serving time - including bikers and transvestites. And he isn't holding back when it comes to poking fun at the California penal system - he even plays to crack jokes at the expense of his camp administrator.
