Government officials in Miami, Florida have voted to keep the controversial Ultra Music Festival in the city, despite disagreement from the local mayor.

On Thursday (24Apr14), Miami city commissioners voted four to one in favour of allowing the electronic dance festival to return to the Bayfront Park venue in 2015.

The decision goes against Mayor Tomas Regalado's wishes to cancel the event, after a 21 year old was found dead in a car and a security guard suffered brain damage when she was trampled by fans jumping a fence. Police also reported a total of 84 arrests over the three-day event last month (Mar14).

Commissioners ruled to allow the 2015 festival to continue if organisers agree to set up mental health and drug stations, increase police presence, and install an additional layer of fencing in order to avoid gate-crashers, according to The Miami Herald newspaper.

The next festival will run from 27-29 March, 2015.
