Digital sales of the performances from last week's HOPE FOR HAITI NOW telethon have amassed $3 million (£1.87 million) for the earthquake relief effort.
Music fans rushed to get hold of tracks performed by the likes of Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Coldplay, Madonna and a collaboration between Jay-Z, Rihanna and U2 stars Bono and The Edge, and the iTunes digital album became the first such release to top the U.S. charts on Wednesday (27Jan10).
And now Apple Inc. bosses have confirmed that worldwide iTunes sales of the Hope For Haiti Now album, video, and individual performances have raised more than $3 million for the earthquake-ravaged country.
On Thursday (28Jan10), Hope For Haiti Now became the first project to simultaneously occupy the number one spot on iTunes' US album, song and TV charts, according to Billboard.com.
