U2 have announced that they are delaying the release of their upcoming album following the surprise victory of Donald Trump, claiming that they’ll have to revise certain tracks on the new record as “the world is a different place”.
The Irish rock titans, who last released an album in September 2014 called Songs of Innocence, said in a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine that Trump’s unexpected election victory in November meant that they now needed some “breathing space” to revise the content and performance of some of their upcoming 14th album’s songs.

The U2 guitarist has gained permission to build five huge houses in Malibu.
U2 guitar player The Edge has won approval to construct five massive hilltop mansions in Malibu, California, concluding a long-running dispute with nearby residents and environmentalists concerned about the impact on wildlife.
The musician, whose real name is David Howell Evans, bought the land in question back in 2005, and for the subsequent decade has been trying to gain approval from the California Coastal Commission to be able to build properties on the site, with the intention of living there.

Ahead of the season, Lily Allen's Christmas single proves to be a chart climber.
You know it’s the holiday season when songs from Christmas adverts take over the charts – in this case it’s Lily Allen’s cover of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know. The track, which is featured in a John Lewis ad campaign, was bumped off the top last week. The gentle tones of Somewhere, so unlike Allen’s latest previous single Hard Out Here, still managed to topple One Direction’s Story of My Life and Bastille’s Of The Night.
Allen's Christmas cover will have to hold out for another two weeks against tough competition.
According to the Official Charts Company, Allen’s festive cover might even have a chance at the coveted Christmas Number one – provided it can outlast the competition. Somewhere Only We Know would have to beat songs by the likes of AC/DC, U2, and Susan Boyle to hold on to its Number 1 for two more weeks. This year’s festive chart sees the return of both X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent alumni, as James Arthur, Leona Lewis and Lucy Spraggan, as well as Richard & Adam and Susan Boyle will all be releasing singles. With so many people staking a claim at the Christmas Number 1, Allen will have a tough time keeping her lead.
The broadcaster is slammed for impunity after Barlow bombardment.
The BBC have been forced to scale back plans for a 'Gary Barlow Day' set to take place on BBC Radio 2, scheduled for Wednesday 11th December. Though the singer is a judge on The X Factor for ITV, the BBC had a whole day of interviews, performances and online Q&As planned. The Take That star has also recently released his first solo album in 14 years, Since I Saw You Last, which added to concerns that the broadcaster's heavy focus could be seen as endorsement.
The BBC originally defended their plans for a day of Barlow-based entertainment, describing the planned broadcast as "no ordinary performance." The scheduled on the BBC website outlined appearances on Ken Bruce and Steve Wright's Radio 2 shows, as well as a broadcasted concert from the BBC Radio Theatre and an 'Ask Gary' online Q&A.

Nashville legend “Cowboy” Jack Clement has sadly passed away aged 82. The producer, songwriter and artist worked with Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, George Jones amongst others and was recently inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He died yesterday (Thursday, Aug 8) of liver cancer.
Clement was considered by everyone inside and around country music to be a legend of the genre, having helmed country’s first story-oriented ‘concept album’ - Bobby Bare’s ‘A Bird Named Yesterday,’ released in 1967. As well as arranging the horns for Jonny Cash’s infamous Ring of Fire, Clement wrote ‘Just Someone I Used to Know’ for Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton. He also co-produced ‘Angel of Harlem’ and ‘When Love Comes To Town’ for U2.

Sir Paul McCartney's wealth has risen from £80 million in 1989, to £680 million in 2013.
Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has topped the Sunday Times list of the richest musicians with a £680 million fortune. The singer-songwriter has topped the list since 1989, when he was worth an estimated £80 million. In second place was composer and West End king Andrew Lloyd Webber, with £620 million, and the combined financial might of Irish rock band U2 finished third with £520 million. The full list will be published by the newspaper on Sunday 21, April.
Elsewhere on the list, former Spice Girls star Victoria Beckham shares an estimated fortune of £200 million with superstar husband David, while Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger was tied on the same amount. Elton John featured prominently, while dancer Michael Flatley surprised many by finishing seventh with a £191 million fortune. Keith Richards, Olivia and Dhani Harrison, and Sting rounded out the Top 10 with amounts over £180 million.
In the young music millions list, Adele unsurprisingly topped the list with an estimated £30 million fortune. It was widely reported that the Oscar-winner had made £10 million last year despite taking time off to recover from a throat operation and giving birth to her first child. Her award-winning album 21 has seen her value increase by 50%. Elsewhere, Cheryl Cole's estimated worth was increased to £14 million, while each of the five members of boy-band One Direction are said to be worth £5 million each - a figure likely to have increased exponentially by next year.
The details of Julie Taymor's settlement have not been made public
News broke yesterday (April 10, 2013) that Julie Taymor, the jilted director of the ill-fated Spiderman Broadway production has finally reached a settlement with the show’s producers. However, we do not know what that settlement was, as the details have not been made public, Reuters reported.
Taymor was fired from Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark back in March 2011 after she got into disputes with producers over injuries sustained by actors during high wire stunts, delays in the arrival of the opening night and critical disdain for the show when that opening night finally arrived. Up until that point, Taymor had worked on the show for years and had previously been given a Tony award for best direction of a musical, for The Lion King. After Taymore had been ousted, she claims that the revamped production used much of her original libretto. She took the case to court, seeking unpaid royalties and damages at her estimation of over $1 million. She also appealed for a permanent injunction, preventing the producers from licensing the musical beyond Broadway without her consent.
The recent settlement means that a planned court date on May 27 will no longer go ahead. The show is one of the most expensive musicals ever to have ventured onto the Broadway stage and features music from U2’s Bono and The Edge. It has become a huge commercial success, often earning in excess of $1 million per week. In a statement, Taymor said “I'm pleased to have reached an agreement and hope for the continued success of Spider-Man, both on Broadway and beyond.”

They never could keep out of the limelight for very long. With David Bowie announcing a shock return, Irish rockers U2 have opted to steal some of the returning legend's thunder by revealing to The Sun that they themselves are also back in the studio with a new album on the way. The multi-million selling group haven't been away for nearly as long as the Thin White Duke, or even pop stars Destiny's Child and Justin Timberlake, both who revealed their long-awaited comebacks last week. Their last album was 2009's No Line On The Horizon, whilst the group were touring as recently as 2011.

When we say 'in' music, we mean musicians, but Dr Dre is the richest of them all, according to Forbes. Sure you might have been searching Gangnam Style or bopping away to Bieber over the last year, but it's Dre on the top of the list that matters (to some).
He is kind of cheating though, as not all of his money comes from his musical talents; his popular Beats headphones franchise has seen him glean $100m in pre-tax PROFIT, which added to his extensive back catalogue of hip hop, and the fact he was probably the biggest rap artists through the 90's, it's not hard to see how Dre ended up atop the rich list. Last year's highest-paid musicians U2 dropped to #4 this year, with combined earnings of $78 million from their three-year 360 tour. 1990s British boy band Take That, who's finances were boosted by their reformation in 2005, rounded out the top five with $69 million, earned from an eight-date tour at London's Wembley Stadium, which became the highest-grossing single stadium tour to date.
The top 10 is dominated by some contemporary artists, but only one's that have been contemporary for ages; veteran musicians if you will. Pink Floyd's bassist and singer Roger Waters coming in at No. 2 with earnings of $88 million from his lucrative The Wall Live tour, and British singer Elton John at No. 3 with $80 million.
I've had a largely difficult relationship with U2's creative pinnacle, Achtung Baby. Back in 1991 we were allowed to bring in music to listen to on the last day of term. Inevitably the album of choice for my peers was Nevermind, mine was Bono & co's album that defined U2 for a new decade. Cue ridicule for not following the crowd, the reaction of a room of 11 year olds wasn't helped when the teacher insisted on not putting Nirvana back on because he 'quite liked U2 too'. It turned me off the album for a long time, but maybe that experience encapsulates why Achtung Baby is such a great record.
