R&B star and actor Tyrese Gibson paid tribute to the late TEDDY PENDERGRASS on late night TV in America on Wednesday (20Jan10) by performing the soul classic he and the beloved singer worked on together.
Gibson served up a "surprise" for Pendergrass fan George Lopez when he interrupted their chat on Lopez Tonight to belt out the soul great's Come On Over To My Place - the song he'll sing in an upcoming biopic.
The Transformers star revealed he had been working with Pendergrass in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania while preparing for his portrayal of the golden-voiced star, and was upset by news of his death last week (13Jan10).
Gibson said, "I started going to Philly (for) a week at a time because I was doing the research for the life story of Teddy Pendergrass. I never sung in the movie so it would have been my first time singing in a film. It's (the film) still in motion.
"We ended up getting really close and that's like my step-pops. It was a big loss."
Gibson then stepped up to the mic and performed Come On Over with Lopez's house band.
