Some breaking superhero movie news: director Bryan Singer has unveiled casting details for three characters in his forthcoming project X-Men: Apocalypse. Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp will all play younger versions of three of the mythology’s most popular characters.

Singer, who is already attached for the eighth instalment in the popular movie franchise, tweeted the casting announcements on Thursday. The biggest news is the inclusion of Turner, famous for her portrayal of the tormented Sansa Stark on ‘Game Of Thrones’, who will be playing a younger version of the ultra-telepathic Jean Grey. That makes her the second ‘Game of Thrones’ star to also feature in the franchise – Peter Dinklage played the baddie in last year’s Days of Future Past.

Tye Sheridan, who has played roles in The Tree of Life and Joe, will be playing a young Cyclops. Sheridan will have a different back story to the younger version of Cyclops that we saw in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, for those paying attention to detail.

The character Storm will also be reintroduced and played by Alexandra Shipp, who took the lead role of Aaliyah in the recent Lifetime biopic.

There will also be another newcomer to the franchise, in the form of Oscar Isaac who will play the film’s villain Apocalypse. Series veterans Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy are all signed on to reprise their various roles once more.

Principal photography for the movie is scheduled to start in Montreal in April this year, and the finished movie is currently slated for release on May 27th 2016. Three more movies are also in the pipeline: spin-offs Deadpool and Gambit (both 2016) and an as-yet untitled third Wolverine film (2017).
