Agent 1 and Agent 2 are CIA Operatives who are also the best of friends who don't keep anything from each other. While at work one day, both agents tell each other about their respective girlfriends. When they express an interest in seeing what their girlfriends look like, they quickly turn their laptops around to show each other - but to their horror, their girlfriends turn out to be the same girl!
The girl's name is Lauren. She met Agent 1 and shortly after falling for Agent 2. While initially balking at the idea of seeing two guys at once, her best friend Trish tells her to go for it, incorrectly pointing out that they won't know each other.
Lauren juggles Agents 1 and 2, unaware that the two friends are attempting to sabotage the other's relationship, using increasingly more ridiculous weapons that they have at their disposal. One night, Lauren invites Agent 1 out to dinner and Agent 2 also arrives at the restaurant which leads her to introduce him as her friend, a situation that could only have hilarious consequences.
This Means War was originally going to be released in 2001 with Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence cast as the two warring agents but the film was cancelled. It was revived several years later, with Bradley Cooper and Seth Rogen attached to the project but the two left and were replaced with Chris Pine and Tom Hardy.
The director, McG, is known for his directorial film debut, Charlie's Angels, which was released in 2000, as well as the 2009 film Terminator Salvation. Since then, he has been the executive producer for a number of TV shows, including Chuck and is currently the executive producer for the online series Aim High, which stars Twilight star Jackson Rathbone.
