His neighborhood is no longer the place he's familiar with, it's run by Hmong, Latino and African American teenage gangs. When a immigrant Hmong family move in to the house next door, all remains the same until their son is bullied into stealing Walts prize possession, by one of the teenage neighborhood gangs. When Walt spots the boys approaching his Gran Torino - which he's kept in perfect condition he threatens the boys with his M-1 gun and the gang leave.
Persuaded by his mother and sister Thao goes to work for Walt to make up for his wrong doings. Walt finally accepts the help of the boy and sets him to work cleaning up the neighborhood.
