Chris Hawes, Jamie Hull, Mark Cavendish and Lee Matthews - Britain's greatest ever sprint road cyclist Mark Cavendish and his wife Peta have reached out to the great British public to sign up to Hero Ride 2015 - Help for Heroes largest fundraising challenge - which will see over 2,000 cyclists raise over £1 million for injured servicemen and women. Hero Ride 2015 is a series of cycling challenges taking place in early June, with rides starting from the Help for Heroes Recovery Centres, as well as further afield from France and Scotland, before reaching the Grand Finale in Windsor on Sunday 21 June. For many of those who serve our country, their personal battles may only just be beginning. Data obtained by Help for Heroes shows that of the 220,560 troops that were sent to Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001, an estimated 75,000 men and women who served in recent conflicts may need our support for a variety of physical or psychological injuries. This is in addition to at least 42,000 partners or family members who may have been indirectly affected by these wars. Winner of 25 Tour De France stages, Cavendish is a Help for Heroes Patron and has taken part in the annual Hero Ride over the past couple of years. H4H Patron Mark Cavendish said, "The Hero Ride is an amazing opportunity to cycle alongside our injured men and women and to hear their inspirational stories. I've seen first-hand how Help for Heroes supports them and their families and in the future that support is going to be more important than ever. I'd urge anyone who has ever thought about doing something life-changing or challenging to sign-up and cycle alongside these amazing people." The funds raised by Hero Ride 2015 will help the charity continue to deliver direct, practical support to Servicemen and women who have suffered life-changing injuries and illnesses through its national support network. Hero Ride 2015 will see organised rides leave from Help for Heroes Recovery Centres in Plymouth, Catterick, Colchester and Tidworth, which will join r at Tour De France - Windsor, United Kingdom - Friday 13th March 2015
