Is Tori Spelling's reality TV show too simplistic and stylised to be an accurate representation of the family's life?
In True Tori, Tori Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott attempt to bring the viewer an experience unlike any other reality television show in that the glitzy embellishments of their celebrity lifestyle is cast to one side in favour of a grittier, more relatable look at one family's trials and traumas.
Having premiered in April this year, the Lifestyle docu-series began three weeks into the aftermath of McDermott's adulterous affair whilst he films the first season of cooking reality series Chopped Canada in Toronto. The show brings to light the impact of how devastating cheating can be to a marriage dynamic, as seen in Tori and Dean's many tearful or angry therapy sessions.
The Beverly Hills 90210 actress has had the attention of a camera crew throughout her whole life, so it's not surprising that she is often so calm and direct when airing her grievances with her husband. However, the 41 year-old star has been accused of making up the affair for publicity and milking it with her new show.

Has the drama in Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott's marriage temporarily abated? The couple spent the day in Los Angeles together and appeared "sweet and affectionate" to one another. However, there may be trouble ahead with one of Spelling's former Beverly Hills 90210 stars revealing details about Spelling's allegedly poor behaviour.
The drama which appears to be a staple of Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott's marriage continues but it appears as though the couple are putting on a brave face in the wake of cheating allegations, suicide contemplations and substance abuse.

The former Beverly Hills 90210 star and her husband of 8 years, McDermott, have been experiencing relationship troubles of late owing to Spelling discovering her husband's two day affair in December 2013. As Us Weekly reported last year, McDermott met a 28-year-old woman whilst on a trip to Toronto and had a two day affair. In the couple's upcoming new realty series, True Tori, McDermott details his struggle with substance abuse and contemplating suicide.
The '90210' actor unloads on his former co-stars and friends.
Jason Priestley has released a tell-all memoir, Jason Priestley: A Memoir, which among detailing the 90210 actor's thoughts on fame and family, dishes the dirt on celebrities that he's encountered during his long career in the spotlight. He criticises the shockingly bratty behaviour of fellow stars Shannen Doherty, Mischa Barton and Dean McDermott and reveals the rather gross competitions he and former roomie Brad Pitt used to make up for fun.

On his former 90210 co-star Doherty he recalls taking a private flight with her from L.A. to New York to meet with advertisers and remembers how the actress' diva-esque antics didn't leave the best impression.
Apparently, there are some deep psychological issues at the bottom of this story.
Things just veered from scandalous to troubling on the second episode of True Tori. In the episode, which aired Tuesday night on Lifetime, Dea McDermott had the floor to explain why he cheated. We’ve already had glimpses of McDermott’s issues – in January, he voluntarily entered rehab to seek treatment for his alleged sex addiction, after his infidelity with Emily Goodhand came to light a month earlier. This week (or at during the taping of True Tori) anyway, he finally went into detail about the slipup and what brought him there. Here's the play-by-play.
Apparently McDermott is struggling with sex addiction and self hate.
"I haven't dealt with any of it yet," Tori confesses at the start of Tuesday's show, before she admitted, talking over the couple’s marital problems with a single-dad friend. "All my friends have an opinion ... but at the end of the day I have to do what's right for my children."
The 40 year-old's recent personal struggles involving her cheating husband and the launch of her new Lifetime reality TV show have started to take its toll.
Tori Spelling's personal life is spiralling out of control and as this turmoil time continues, her health took a turn for the worse.
Dealing with her failing marriage and filming a reality TV show, 'True Tori,' the 40 year-old has found it too much to handle and as a result, she was recently hospitalized.
Although the reason for her stay in hospital has not been disclosed, E!News reports Spelling remained in the medical facility for a six day period.
The first episode of the series went over the events of last December.
Tori Spelling’s new lifetime show debuted last night after months of promotion. For Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott that also meant months of airing unpleasant details about their marriage and personal life. It worked. True Tori opened on Lifetime to an audience of 1.2 million viewers, according to THR. The story of McDermott’s infamous infidelity picked up almost immediately in the premiere episode. Spelling recalled for the cameras how McDermott initially tried to lie about cheating on her.
The drama has only begun on True Tori.
“He told me, ‘Nothing happened.’ Then he was looking at me and I noticed that his right eyebrow was shaking up and down. I said, ‘Why is your eyebrow shaking?’ Are you lying? And he said no.”
The drama continues to unfold in the latest "True Tori" promo.
Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott’s marital troubles are no secret, thanks to their reality show, but in the latest promo for True Tori, released by Us Weekly the couple are delving deeper than ever before. Sitting together on a therapist’s couch, Spelling and McDermott recall all the ways, in which things went wrong for them – especially his cheating.
The troubled couple also have their four young children to think of.
