Jim Murray, longstanding agent to stars including Tony Bennett, Liza Minnelli and Barry Manilow, has died at the age of 85.

The dealmaker passed away at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Wednesday (02Jan13) following a brief illness.

After starting his career as a drummer with The Glenn Miller Band, Murray landed a job at talent agency Icm and worked his way up to senior vice president.

During his stint running the Las Vegas and L.A. offices, he looked after talent including Bennett, Minnelli, and Manilow, as well as Paul Anka, Natalie Cole, Phyllis Diller, Joan Rivers and Jerry Lewis.

He retired in 1985.
