By Some Miracle I Made It Out Of There - The Shocking Rise And Fall Of Tom Sizemore

Tom Sizemore Robert De Niro

Tom Sizemore’s autobiography ‘By Some Miracle I Made It Out of There’ details the actor’s dramatic fall from grace. Known for his roles in movies such as Saving Private Ryan and Natural Born Killers, at one point, Sizemore had it all; a successful career, money and a restaurant he part-owned with Robert De Niro.

However, as with many a Hollywood star before him (and no doubt plenty to follow), drugs proved to be Tom Sizemore’s downfall and he lost everything. “I’d had the multimillion-dollar house, the Porsche, the restaurant I partially owned with Robert De Niro. And now I had absolutely nothing.” During his relationship with the former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss that Sizemore’s life really began to disintegrate. In 2003, he was convicted of “harassing, annoying and physically abusing Fleiss,” Salon.com reports. the actor admits to having become a “spoiled movie star” and an “arrogant fool” though he denies ever striking Heidi.

Salon describe the book as a hard-hitting one, written in “coarse prose befitting some of the hard-boiled characters Sizemore brought to life on screen.” The subject matter is not easy to take either, much of the time, with Tom’s tales of degradation taking up much of the pages – “sex tapes, copious amounts of drug taking” and other debauched activity that led to the star’s downfall. Summing up his approach to the autobiography, Tom writes “I’ve led an interesting life, but I can’t tell you what I’d give to be the guy you didn’t know anything about.”

Tom Sizemore Assaulter Arrested After Making Off With Pricey Loot

Tom Sizemore Elizabeth Hurley

A man claiming to be his date’s boyfriend, The L.A Times reports, allegedly assaulted Tom Sizemore in his downtown L.A apartment.

The man, rather bizarrely, came to Sizemore's house on Thursday evening to confront Sizemore and the woman. While there, he claimed he had a gun and even put Sizemore in a headlock at one point. He also fled with several guitars and other property, according to the report. He was later caught and arrested by police who seized Sizemore’s belongings and returned them. Sizemore – famed for his ‘tough guy’ roles – is usually on the other side of the law. August 2003 saw him convicted of misdemeanor charges after he physically abused and harassed his ex-girlfriend, Heidi Fleiss. And In February 2005 he failed a court-ordered drug test; he was sent into drug rehabilitation for two years. And in June 2007 he was on a charge of possession of methamphetamine and subsequently jailed for 16 months for breaking the probation rules that had been laid down for the previous charge.

Black Hawk Down Review

Terrible
"It's about the facelessness of war!" exclaimed a colleague. "The compositions are stunning, with action going on in the foreground and background. It's a dynamic and apocalyptic visual experience!" This, to me, is madness. Black Hawk Down has been mistaken, in its bloated self-importance, for being cinematically and politically relevant. Take away its timely guise of patriotism, and it's a real horror show, more about murder than military prowess. Without the morally repellant "kill 'em all" subtext (young white boys mowing down the savages), you're left with something merely incoherent.

Two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters go down in the mazelike streets of Mogadishu during a routine search-and-capture mission, leaving 100 G.I.'s stumbling around enemy territory with limited resources until the rescue Rangers show up. It's been oft-compared to having almost two full hours of Steven Spielberg's masterful 30-minute Omaha Beach sequence in Saving Private Ryan, which sounds good on paper only because Ryan suffered by following up its amazing visual prologue with a glut of character-driven monologues to invest personality within each soldier before he get killed. But Spielberg understood the basic precepts of documentary filmmaking: no matter how chaotic things got, we always understood where the soldiers were, and where they were going. Black Hawk Down, by removing exposition and cohesion, couldn't care less.

Big Trouble Review

Terrible
Much has been said about Big Trouble, another film meant for a near-September 11th release that was postponed because its contents would be too upsetting amidst the tragedy. Now, seven months and countless airport security measures later, Touchtone Pictures has determined that it is a better time for the film's release.

But forget about September 11th for a moment and consider this: Is there ever a good time to release a film that endorses bribing airline personal for tickets to carry a suitcase containing a ticking nuclear bomb onto a plane? The answer is easy. Pre- or post-September 11th, there is no appropriate time for a comedy this poorly conceived. Big Trouble is irresponsible filmmaking; it doesn't even justify the space for an explanation. But since reviews are my business, let me try to sort out this movie's mess.

The Florentine Review

Weak
The Florentine has that desperate desire to be Reservoir Dogs, with a rogues' gallery of ex-cons, mobsters, and sad sacks all trying to make a go at life and intersecting at their favorite bar. Alas, few of their stories are worth paying much attention to, though James Belushi is (unintentionally) hysterical as a scam artist taking advantage of poor Luke Perry.

Pearl Harbor Review

Weak

The handful of battle scenes that make up a good hour of "Pearl Harbor" are adrenaline-pumping and hyper-realistic on a massive scale.

You feel the impact of every single 7.7mm round from dive-bombing Japanese Zeros as they rip through pavement, planes and people in the infamous attack around which the film in centered. Director Michael Bay's camera goes inside cockpits, rides along on bombs from release to explosion, captures the terror of a torpedo in the water from the deck of a ship and includes some of the best special effects ever put on film.

The money shot is a hull-buckling blast that rips through the USS Arizona. It makes being on a luxury liner hit by an iceberg look like a 25-cent carnival ride.
