Rocker and activist Tom Morello is calling on fellow guitar players and musicians to join him on a march through the streets of New York on Tuesday (01May12) as part of a noisy Occupy Wall Street demonstration.
The Rage Against The MAChine star has been one of the most fervent celebrity supporters of the waning Occupy movement, which began in New York last autumn (11), and he is urging fans and protesters to get involved in the next planned event, Occupy Guitarmy, on May Day (01May12).
Legions of campaigning guitarists will gather in Manhattan's Bryant Park and march down to Union Square at 12 noon to draw attention to the need for greater social equality, and Morello is helping to rally support for the cause.
He has even encouraged fans to skip school or work that day to take part.
In a post on Twitter.com, Morello writes, "Join me & Ows ( Occupy Wall Street) GuitArmy on May Day! Remember kids general strike that day! No work/no school just singin/strummin (sic) 4 justice in the streets (sic)".
Morello previously joined protesters in London and treated them to a brief performance, while he also played for Occupy demonstrators in Austin, Texas during the South By Southwest music and arts festival in March (12).
