Tom Ford has admitted he is careful about who wears his clothes and said only an Oscar nominee will be allowed to wear his new label to the Academy Awards next year.
Tom Ford is choosy over which celebrities wear clothes from his new line.
Although the designer - who has returned to womenswear after a six-year break - put on a show at New York Fashion Week with a cast which included Beyonce Knowles, Lauren Hutton and Julianne Moore, he said he doesn't like to see his clothes being worn by "starlets" because it cheapens the brand.
He told Vogue.com: "I do not understand everyone's need to see everything online the day after a show. I don't think it ultimately serves the customer, which is the whole point of my business - not to serve journalists or The Fashion system.
"To put something out that's going to be in a store in six months, and to see it on a starlet, ranked in US magazine next week? My customer doesn't want to wear the same thing she saw on a starlet!"
Although Tom does not want young actresses to wear his clothes, he admitted there are certain celebrities who he would love to see in his outfits and said he will personally choose who to dress for the Academy Awards next year.
He said: "I'll wait to see who's nominated for the Oscars. Then I will offer to dress one person."
Vogue will show the first images of Tom's new collection in their December issue.
