Tom Cruise has signed on to reprise his role as secret agent Ethan Hunt in a fifth Mission: Impossible movie.
The 50-year-old Hollywood icon will star in the upcoming blockbuster and also serve as producer, reports Deadline.com.
He is expected to reteam with Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher MCQuarrie, who directed Cruise in last year's (12) Jack Reacher and penned the screenplay for his Nazi drama Valkyrie.
The fourth installment in the franchise, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, pulled in more than $600 million (£375 million) at the international box office back in 2011, and Cruise revealed he was already dreaming up another sequel.
He said, "I'll make as many as people want to see, because they're very challenging and so much fun to make. We're already working on different images (and) talking conceptually."
Meanwhile, MCQuarrie has also been hired to adapt Alistair MCLean's classic thriller Ice Station Zebra for a big screen remake, according to The Hollywood Reporter. MCQuarrie is also slated to direct the film, which was originally released in 1968 - and starred Rock Hudson and Ernest Borgnine.
