The Hollywood superstar has been offered a supporting role in the movie version of the hit Broadway musical, although he is yet to sign up.
Cruise has been asked to play a bartender and would get to sing some classic rock songs from the 80s, which appear in the musical.
It is expected to be directed by Adam Shankman and is set for release next year, Deadline.com reports.
This isn't the only movie role being lined up for Cruise.
It was recently reported he is set to star in 'Top Gun 2' and will play a smaller role in the film than he did in the in the original movie, where he starred as pilot Maverick.
Cruise, 48, was most recently seen in action comedy 'Knight and Day' alongside Cameron Diaz, and is currently filming his fourth inception as Ethan Hunt for 'Mission: Impossible IV'.
