A new play chronicling Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' romance and marriage is set to open in Los Angeles thanks to donations from fans.
The TomKat Project received favourable reviews when it debuted in Chicago earlier this year (13), but producers were struggling with funding to stage the production in Los Angeles, ironically at a theatre just a few hundred feet from a leading Church of Scientology building.
So they turned to crowd sourcing website Kickstarter.com with the hope of raising $15,000 (£10,000). That figure has been met and the play is now set to open at the iO West Theater in Hollywood.
Now producer Dein Sofley tells The Hollywood Reporter he only has one major concern - that leading Scientologists will try to keep people from seeing the comedy in a bid to protect prominent church member Cruise.
He says, "Our biggest concern is that the church might catch wind and purchase all of the tickets so that there would be no seats."
