Tom Cruise is in early talks to lead the cast in a big screen remake of cult Tv series The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Guy Ritchie is onboard to direct the action film, based on the Cold War drama which starred Robert Vaughn and David MCCallum as spies Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin.

George Clooney was originally slated to star in the movie when Steven Soderbergh was attached as director. Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Joel Kinnaman and Michael Fassbender have also been linked to the project.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Ritchie approached Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to play his leading men, but the plan didn't work out.
