Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' divorce has officially been confirmed, leaving both superstars to get on with their lives. A New York judge signed off the final judgement on Monday, according to court records obtained by E! News.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes made headline news in June when the latter apparently "blindsided" the Mission Impossible star by filing for divorce while he was away working on a new movie. The Church of Scientology received a wave of negative press, with some reports suggesting members were keeping tabs on Holmes in the days following the filing. Predictably, a divorce settlement was hammered out in a matter of days, and Holmes was granted sole custody of daughter Suri, with Cruise awarded generous visitation rights. A source close to Cruise tells E! News that the actor is pleased that he's finally moving on, saying, "Tom is very happy and relieved that he is moving forward. His priority is being a good father and this settlement will make sure that continues".
Now that the divorce had gone through, it's likely that Katie will try and rescue her flagging career, which suffered during her marriage to Tom. She's already gone about doing just that, by starring in an untitled movie by Christian Camargo, about a family who "confronts the volatile and fragile nature of love" on Memorial Day. The film is modern retelling of Anton Chekhov's 'The Seagull'. Meanwhile, Cruise is working on no less than four new movies, including 'Van Helsing, 'Jack Reacher' and 'Mission: Impossible 5'. Just how the divorce will affect the success of his movies remains to be seen, though for Katie, things can only get better.
