A smiling Tom Cruise returned to work on the set of his forthcoming movie 'Oblivion' in June Lake, California, this week, just days after the terms of his divorce from Katie Holmes was settled. Cruise, 50, was spotted laughing with stills photographer David James and is reportedly getting "warm hugs" from his colleagues between takes.
According to US weekly magazine, Tom has also removed his wedding ring though remained upbeat throughout the day's filming. 'Oblivion' - set for release in 2013 and also starring Morgan Freeman - sees Cruise play a veteran soldier sent to a distant planet where he is ordered to destroy the remains of an alien race. The arrival of an unexpected traveller causes him to question what he knows about the planet, and himself. The shoot appears to be going ahead as normal, despite Cruise's wife reportedly "blindsiding" him by filing for divorce in New York City, while he was busy working. Nevertheless, the couple reached a quick settlement over the weekend, reportedly to limit the damage on the Church of Scientology's public image, which has taken a battering in recent days. Others say it was for the sake of their young daughter Suri. According to an insider privy to the deal, Holmes will get primary legal custody of the 6-year-old, with Cruise allowed visitation rights. In a joint statement, the former couple said, "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri's best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents".
As well as 'Oblivion', Tom Cruise is also set to star in the action-drama 'Jack Reacher', based on one of Lee Child's popular crime novels.
