The Back-up Plan Review

Good
As far as romantic comedies go, this is just about watchable. Even though it's both silly and sappy, it has a vaguely realistic tone that lets us identify with the characters. Even if the romance falls flat, the romance is sweet.

Zoe (Lopez) is a busy but single New Yorker desperate to have a child, so she heads to the sperm bank. After her doctor (Klein) helps her conceive, even a clash with an annoying stranger, Stan (O'Loughlin), can't ruin her day. Of course, she runs into him again, and this time notices that he's both annoying and drop-dead gorgeous. So how will he react when he finds out that Zoe is pregnant?

Paper Clips Review

Excellent
Films dealing with Holocaust situations are everywhere. At least one is nominated every year for an Academy Award. Many are told from a Jewish or survivor point of view in an effort to humanize a situation gradually slipping from general consciousness. Sometimes there are so many that it can get overwhelming and you begin to shut certain information out. It's not for lack of caring about the atrocities that were committed so much as hearing it so many times before.

The story of Paper Clips is engrossing because it comes from the entirely opposite end of the spectrum, seeking out knowledge because it simply wasn't there before. A principal and a couple of teachers at a middle school in the middle of Tennessee decided to use the events of the Holocaust to learn along with their children about the nature and effects of intolerance.

Yours, Mine And Ours (1968) Review

Good
He's got 10 kids, she's got 8. Of course, the family of 20 is going to get together and out-Brady that bunch. Yes, there will be hijinks, but this is 1968, so the worst will involve a lost slip and a boy that's a little pushy with the big sister. No, no jock strap in the spaghetti humor. Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda make for an awkward pair (she's a kind of dippy nurse, he's in the navy), but their tales -- based on a true coupling -- are a pleasant enough diversion, despite having aged badly. (Not to mention the fact that Fonda re-recorded all his lines and the sound editing makes them so loud they at first seem to be voice-over.)

Love With The Proper Stranger Review

OK
Quaint, old-fashioned, and overwrought, this minor classic from the early 1960s features McQueen as a pick-up musician and Wood as a still-living-at-home goodie-goodie who come together after a one-night stand, when Wood discovers she is pregnant with his baby. Managing to be both pro-abortion and pro-family values, Love with the Proper Stranger is hardly the highlight of either star's career, but it is a cute diversion.
