Actor Tom Arnold is starting off 2014 89 pounds (40 kilograms) lighter after turning his diet around following the birth of his baby boy.
The True Lies star became a first-time father at the age of 54 last April (13), after a long struggle with fertility issues, and he admits the responsibility of caring for little Jax inspired him to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Arnold, who used to tip the scales at close to 300 pounds (136 kilograms), claims his penchant for gorging on fatty foods had a lot to do with the depression he suffered as a result of his struggles to become a dad, and it was only after his parenthood dreams came true that he decided to cut down on carbohydrates and sugary treats and start eating more whole grains and lean proteins.
He tells America's People magazine, "Something inside of me changed. I decided I didn't want to live that way. I need to stretch fatherhood out as long as I can for my boy's sake."
The actor, who has slimmed down to 198 pounds (89.8 kilograms), thanks in part to twice-daily cardio work outs, insists he is enjoying eating healthily and he is happy his efforts have paid off.
He adds, "I have the same thing for dinner every day: chicken and couscous. Fruit has started tasting good... I have tons more energy to play with my son."
