Tilda Swinton was forced to phone home to tell her partner she had won an Oscar - because her family home isn't furnished with a television. The 47-year-old Brit called painter/writer John Byrne at their shared home in Nairn, Scotland in the early hours of Monday morning (25Feb08) - just moments after she had scooped the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in 2007's Michael Clayton in Los Angeles. Byrne says, "It's wonderful. I am very pleased about it. There was no party here, the party was in Hollywood. I did not watch it because I have not had a telly for over six years. "Tilda phoned me two or three minutes after 4am. I had just woken up. She said in a very small voice, 'I've won.' She'd only just received the Oscar."
