It's probably the first time ever a band has managed to gain thousands of new fans by deliberately disrespecting their audience at a concert, and Third Eye Blind have no regrets about their behaviour towards Republican National Convention goers in Cleveland on Tuesday (July 19th 2016).

Third Eye BlindThird Eye Blind clarify their stance on the Republican party

The 90s rock band has spoken out to clarify a points about their activities this week. They were wrongly reported to have been performing as part of the Republican National Convention by many news publications, when in actual fact they had been playing a nearby benefit concert that many convention goers happened to attend. They noticed where this particularly crowd was coming from, and made it very clear that they weren't welcome.

'We did not play an RNC event. We performed at a benefit for Musicians on Call because we support their mission in bringing music to the bedsides of patients in hospitals', the band wrote on their Facebook page. 'Given that the benefit was held in Cleveland, we suspected that convention types might show up and we let it be known we were there to support Musicians on Call and that we in fact repudiate every last stitch of the RNC platform and the grotesque that is their nominee.'

They went on to outline a few of the key points that separates their opinions from those of the Republican party; 'Science is science', 'Black Lives Matter' and 'LGBTQ = equal' for example.  'We have Republican friends, family members, and fans, and we love them all. What we reject is what their party has come to stand for', they continued. 'But in keeping with Musicians on Call's message, we believe in the gathering power of music. With that spirit we don't step back from our audience wherever or whomever they are.'

More: Third Eye Blind antagonise Republican National Convention visitors at benefit show

Having said that, they did do their best to antagonise much of their audience this week. Between songs, lead singer Stephan Jenkins shouted things like 'Raise your hand if you believe in science!' among other things, inciting boos from the spectators. 'You can boo all you want, but I'm the motherf****** artist up here', he was heard saying.
