Noel Gallagher is on the promotional rounds for his latest album Chasing Yesterday and you know what that means - quotes, quotes, quotes. This week, he's been chatting to Rolling Stone and he had everyone from Taylor Swift to One Direction in his sights.

When the interviewer mentioned Swift's knack for songwriting, Gallagher went on the attack, "Who says that? Her parents."

The journalist suggested "lots of people," adding, "Who's 'people'? Name these people. You're f--king lying. She seems like a nice girl, but no one has ever said those words, and you f--king know it."

Next up for the Gallagher treatment was One Direction.

"They're lovely lads. But I've got to say, I have difficulties with people who don't write their own songs, who've got a team of songwriters who work for your record label," he said.

Gallagher famously suggested that he didn't want to live in a world where Ed Sheeran managed to sell out Wembley Stadium, though he's since softened his view on the British singer-songwriter.

"Am I going to take my own life, is that what you mean? No. He's all right, Ed," said Gallager, "He took it with good humor, which is how it was meant. I was bemoaning the fact that the biggest rock bands in England can't even sell out Wembley, and yet pop music can."

"Modern pop music is bland nonsense," he added, "There isn't even a word yet that's capable of describing it. If it was a color, it would be beige...It's like a milky brown. Not for me."

Noel Gallagher's second solo studio album, Chasing Yesterday, is out now.
