The Wire star Reg E. Cathey narrowly escaped serious injury on Thursday (07Jul11) when a lighting rig crashed to the stage at the Manchester International Festival in England while he was performing.
The actor joined British singer Paul Heaton onstage at the event to fulfil his role as narrator on his track The 8th, but the concert came to an abrupt halt when a lighting tower collapsed, prompting the 52 year old to leap out of the way to avoid being crushed.
The show was stalled for almost an hour, before Cathey, who injured his knee in the incident, reappeared with former Beautiful South star Heaton.
And his bravery has earned him the respect of festival spokesperson Najda Coyne.
She says, "He soldiered on - he had an ice pack on his knee and he has been amazing."
