The Who rocker Pete Townshend and his brother fear their elderly mother is drinking herself to death. In a posting on his website, the 62-year-old guitarist confesses Betty, a former singer, has drunk heavily for years. Townshend writes, "Simon's (his brother) worried about our mother Betty. She is getting older and older. Keith Richards's mum died recently in her 90s. I'm not sure if the Stones man's mum drank a lot. "Betty did, and sadly still does, even in her late 80s. Survival in the face of self-abuse must be something to do with the size of your liver."
