Spotify has not specified exactly what number of streams the R&B singer, real name Abel Tesfaye, achieved, but by Saturday he had definitely unseated his fellow Canadian Justin Bieber, whose music was streamed more than 36 million times on November 13th, 2015 – just after he had released his latest album Purpose.

'25' sold more than Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Sam Smith put together in 2015 - despite only being on sale for the last five weeks of the year!
Confirming what we essentially already knew, Adele’s global domination is total, with the news that her latest album 25 outsold the rest of the top five bestsellers around the world put together in 2015.
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), a global body representing the music industry, reports that her long-awaited third album sold 17.4 million units in 2015, despite only coming out in late November. As a result, the organisation concludes that Adele has helped to reverse “two decades of almost uninterrupted decline” in the music business.

Track Energy sees keys help make the track come alive with the Canadian rapper pushing himself as an artist and pushing the boundaries in the rap industry.
9. The Libertines - Anthems for Doomed Youth

A decade on the band proves their songwriting skills never went away with tracks such Gunga Din a racous, fun indie track making fans of The Libertines feels as if they never went away. Athems for Doomed Youth is a softer album from a band who is constanlty in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Heart of the Matter is a highlight of the album catchy, light and will become a firm favorite when the band play summer festival next year.

In a separate interview, the singer also detailed his first (slightly awkward) meeting with Taylor Swift.
Canadian pop star The Weeknd has pleaded no contest to a charge of assaulting a police officer and will therefore avoid jail time, according a new report.
Back in January this year, the singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, made headline when he was alleged to have punched a police officer in the head after the cops arrived at the Cromwell Hotel in Las Vegas, reacting to reports of a disturbance. The officer in question is believed to have separated Tesfaye and the person he was brawling with and dragged him into an elevator, where he then lashed out and struck the officer in the head.
The Weeknd at the MTV VMAs
The Weeknd has released his much anticipated second album, 'Beauty Behind The Madness', following his critically acclaimed debut 'Kiss Land' which he released in 2013.
Opening track 'Real Life' features subtle vocals from 25-year-old Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) with a backdrop of dramatic keys easing listeners into the 14 track album. 'Losers' follows, with a beautiful intro, taking a slower pace before exploding into an upbeat chorus. The track is a clear highlight with its unexpected brass instrumentation making it come alive.
'Tell Your Friends' features a similar narration to the first two tracks with a dark look into relationships and drugs, and the Canadian's sedate vocals help to create some eerie imagery. Produced by outspoken rapper Kanye West, with lyrics that don't reject that media persona ('I'm that n**ga with the hair/singing 'bout popping pills, f**king b**ches, living life so trill'), he certainly had an influence; never being one to shy away from frank lyrics.

The former One Directioner is said to be making a surprise appearance with The Weeknd at the awards show.
One Direction fans could be in for a special surprise during tonight’s MTV VMA awards, as the rumour is that former member Zayn Malik will be taking to the stage for a duet with The Weeknd. The appearance would be Zayn’s first performance since quitting the boyband earlier this year and pursuing a solo career.
Will Zayn make a surprise appearance at the VMAs tonight?
A source told The Mirror, “He's been rehearsing all day. The Weeknd closed Saturday night’s festivities, following Jack White’s headlining set.

Sia's new music video for 'Elastic Heart' has been raising a few eyebrows.
Sia returns with another spectacularly choreographed video, once again starring pre-teen dance prodigy Maddie Ziegler who is this time joined by a topless Shia LaBeouf in a caged face-off for the epic single 'Elastic Heart'.
Shia LaBeouf goes primal in Sia's 'Elastic Heart' video
Having previously appeared in the erratic video for Sia's multi-platinum single 'Chandelier', 12-year-old Maddie Ziegler makes a return complete with the same wig and nude-coloured leotard for another bout of expressive movement in 'Elastic Heart'; the song from the soundtrack of 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'. While her talent remains breathtaking in her latest venture, viewers were still quick to criticise the controversial content.
Prepare for the 'royalties': the 17 year-old pop sensation signs with Songs Music after fevered bidding.
New Zealand pop star Lorde has signed a publishing contract rumoured to be worth up to £2.5 million after her single 'Royals' topped the UK chart last month. The just-turned-17 singer's signature was fought over in a major bidding war which is said to have included Sony and the publishing arm of her label, Universal.
The latest darling of alternative R&B unveiled the new track during a show in his native Toronto
Up-and-coming R&B star The Weeknd played a brand new track called 'You Belong To The World' (at least, we think that's what it's called) for the first time, whilst playing a concert at Toronto's Mod Club. The Toronto-native first achieved acclaim with his trilogy of free mixtapes; House of Balloons, Echoes of Silence and Thursday, back in 2011 and has been touring regular since then.
In terms of new material, the singer has been uncharacteristically quiet recently, having not released any new material since he finished his trilogy of mixtapes at the tail end of 2011. This will all change however when his first, proper album hits stores later this year - a follow-up to Trilogy, a remastered release of his three mixtapes. Titled Kiss Land, the album is expected to be released later this year and despite the truly appalling title, the news that a follow-up to the well-loved Trilogy has already sent wave across the internet.

First weekend of Ultra Music Festival hampered by multitude of arrests
The dance music-focused Ultra Music Festival in Miami was marred by 58 arrests being made over the weekend; not a great start for an event which was, for the first time, granted a license to take place over an additional second weekend. According to NBCmiami.com, 58 people were arrested at the festival during the weekend’s events, the majority of which were for “disorderly conduct, narcotics and people who tried to enter without paying.”
Police noted that the number of drug-related arrests were minimal; however, the number of arrests that were made will still bring concern surrounding the second event, due to take place next weekend (March 22 – 24, 2013). The Commission Chairman Marc Sarnoff told NBC 6 South Florida back in January that he felt the second weekend was a bad idea, because of the event’s association with drug-taking amongst its punters. “The second weekend also concerns me with the amount of drug consumption. As you know, ecstasy and LSD are the mainstay drugs there,” said Sarnoff. The second weekend is still scheduled to take place and will commence at 5pm on Friday.
Even prior to this last weekend’s event, the festival, featuring artists such as Calvin Harris and The Weeknd was hit with bad news, as four workers were injured by a falling LED screen, which hung from the stage at one of the festival’s sites. The event still went ahead, following an investigation.

Albums Of Note... Get Up! pairs modern blues idol and expert slide guitarist Ben Harper with harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite. Aiming for blues authenticity, that’s exactly what Ben and Charlie achieve here. The pair of talented blues musicians fly in the face of modernity and instead strive to recreate the dusky glamour of a Chicago blues club.
“In general, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite have delivered a strong, yet candid and fun blues album. This album really does not care that it is 2013, and why should it? Each of the ten songs contains something of merit. Both musicians involved are fairly prolific but this collection will doubtlessly shoot to the high end of the fans favourites in no time at all.”
