Neville Staple Of The Specials Live Friday 14 December 2012

The Original Rude Boy, Neville Staple comes to the Albany, Deptford this December with a night that promises to take Two Tone and Ska fans back in time with old favourites from The Specials and Fun Boy 3, as well as choice solo material.

Best known as a singer and toaster in The Specials and as one of the founding members of Fun Boy 3, Neville Staple had a huge impact on the Ska and Sound System scene in the 1970s and is credited with changing the face of pop music not only once, but twice. With a career spanning over 30 years and a biography that reads like a who's who of the industry, he has worked with the likes of Elvis Costello, David Byrne, Ali Campbell (UB40), The Clash, Madness and Bananarama to name but a few.

Most recently, Staple has enjoyed success with his own combo, The Neville Staple Band, touring internationally to Europe, The Middle East, Australia and New Zealand, and playing at various festivals including Glastonbury and Beatherder, supporting Madness. In 2009, he set out on a reunion tour with The Specials, to celebrate the band's 30th anniversary. The same year also saw the launch of his autobiography, 'The Original Rude Boy', chronicling his influence on the Sound System culture in the 1970s.

Local Ska lovers and those from further afield, will know the Albany's location in South London as an important area in the growth of the genre. Staple's gig at the Albany this December is an opportunity for fans to re-live the glory years of Ska.

The Albany is South East London's leading performing arts venue. From September 2012 to May 2013, it is celebrating its 30th birthday celebrations, marking the opening of the venue on Douglas Way.
