The last surviving member of the real life singing siblings who inspired The Sound Of Music's von Trapp family has died.
Maria Franziska von Trapp, whose story became the basis for the musical, passed away on Tuesday (18Feb14) in Vermont at the age of 99.
The 1965 film starring Dame Julie Andrews was based on the real-life tale of the von Trapp family, who fled from the Nazis in World War Ii and later became a singing sensation in America.
Maria is said to have inspired the character of Louisa in the film, played by Heather Menzies-Urich. She was the last surviving member of the original seven children. Maria's sister Agathe, who inspired the character of Liesl, died in 2012 at the age of 97.
