But for years fans have been creating bootleg versions of the beer, as have businesses looking to capitalise on 'The Simpson’s' name. Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Jeffrey Godsick, president of Fox’s consumer products division said, “Once you see enough piracy, you’re faced with two choices. One is deciding to fight it, and the other is deciding to go out [into the market] with it.”

Describing the beer’s taste Godsick added, “It’s a premium lager. It’s got a very good balance of flavour and refreshment to it. It’s fairly deep golden in colour. It’s got a hint of fruit to it. It’s got a caramel aromatic to it.”

The plan is for the beer to eventually be available globally, everywhere the animated Fox sitcom is enjoyed. “I think there’s potential to have Duff everywhere in the world,” Godsick said. However don’t expect to see Homer popped up in any Duff advertisements anytime soon.

“Duff is inspired by the brand that’s in the show, but it begins and ends at that,” Godsick added. “It’s a completely stand-alone brand…you will not see any characters from the show involved in the marketing in any way.” D'oh!
