Voiceover stars on the Mexican version of US cartoon series The Simpsons
have boycotted the show over a cost-cutting casting row.
The voices for the Mexican speaking Simpson family went on strike
yesterday (23FEB05) amid accusations the dubbing company wants to cast cheaper
actors from outside their union, the NATIONAL ACTORS ASSOCIATION.
Disgruntled actors - who are campaigning for better pay deals - formed a
blockade around the offices of GRABACIONES Y DOBLAJES INTERNATIONALES, and
refused to let non-union stars pass through.
PATRICIA ACEVEDO, the Mexican voice of Simpson daughter LISA, says, "For
now we have to keep up the strike there."
Recording - which was scheduled to begin in January (05) - has yet to
commence on the latest episodes, because bosses are refusing to entertain the
pay demands of their employees.
