Say it isn’t so, but TV’s favourite couple might soon be no more.
One of the most enduring couples in television history could be headed for splitsville, as Homer and Marge Simpson are reportedly set to ‘legally separate’ after 27 seasons of marriage. The shocking news has left fans reeling, but it appears the person to blame for the famous couple's troubles is none other than ‘Girls’ star Lena Dunham.
The new season of 'The Simpsons' looks set to bring some unexpected storylines.
In an interview with Variety the show's executive producer Al Jean let it slip that Homer and Marge will be experiencing marriage troubles in the upcoming season premiere, titled ‘Every Man's Dream’. “It’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage,” Jean revealed.
“Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham. We’ll have cameos from the other women from ‘Girls’.” After dropping the bombshell, Jean gave no indication on how long the couple's split will last.
But Lena Dunham isn't the only star who’ll be lending their voice to the series this season. Jean also revealed than in an upcoming episode Lisa will befriend a homeless woman who turns out to be an incredible singer. The woman will be voiced by ‘SNL’ alumni Kate McKinnon with the singing done by Natalie Maines.
The show’s 27th season, which premieres on September 27th, looks set to be packed full of surprises and shockers that will shake up the long running cartoon. Last week it was announced that Sideshow Bob will finally kill off his arch nemesis Bart Simpson in this year’s Halloween special. However since it’s a stand alone episode Bart’s death will, thankfully, only be temporary.
