Days Of Our Lives Wins Top Daytime Emmy

Days Of Our Lives CBS The Restless Ricki Lake The Price Is Right Corbin Bernsen

NBC's Days Of Our Lives won the Daytime Emmy award for the best dramatic series for the first time since 1975. However, the soap opera, which debuted in 1965, won no other major award. (The show's Chandler Massey won in the Younger Actor category playing a teenage character who, over the past year, has been caught up in the difficult process of coming out.) CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful won for best writing, directing, and lead actress. CBS's The Young and The Restless took the trophy for lead actor. The Ellen DeGeneres Show was named best entertainment talk show, while Ricki Lake won for best talk-show host, despite the fact that her show was canceled in February before the end of its first season. The Emmy voters passed over all three daily network morning shows and bestowed its award for morning program to CBS Sunday Morning. The Price Is Right won for best game show and the Dr. Oz Show for informative talk show. TVNewser.com pointed out that the awards telecast, airing on HLN, was plagued with technical glitches virtually from beginning to end, and during the In Memoriam segment Corbin Bernsen uttered two verboten words that didn't get bleeped.

Murdoch Determined To Revive His Struggling Newspapers

The Price Is Right

upert Murdoch suggested on Thursday that he's exhilarated by the prospect of restarting News Corp as a stand-alone news operation. At a New York investors conference, he remarked You may be wondering why I want to do it all over again. The simple answer is: there is opportunity everywhere. Not too many other media moguls would likely agree that the newspaper business is any sort of land of opportunity, but Murdoch maintained that he sees it as undervalued and underdeveloped. (News Corp is being spun off from Murdoch's entertainment business, which will now be called 21st Century Fox.) When Murdoch was asked whether he intends to pursue acquisitions of other newspapers, particularly any of those currently owned by Tribune Corp., he said hat if The Price Is Right he might do so, although cross-ownership rules preventing companies from owning newspapers and broadcast stations in the same market would make such acquisitions pretty unlikely. The response may have raised some eyebrows, since 21st Century, which won't own any newspapers after the split-up, would be the entity acquiring the stations.

Barker Not Invited To Price Is Right Celebration

Bob Barker CBS The Game The Price Is Right

Bob Barker may have hosted The Price Is Right for 35 years and may have written an autobiography in 2009 titled Priceless Memories , but his follow-up could be titled How Soon They Forget. CBS aired a 40th anniversary special of The Game show on Tuesday but didn't include the 88-year-old Barker in it. Asked by the Associated Press why he didn't appear on the special, Barker replied that the network "chose to ignore me, which is fine." He was seen in several clips from past episodes, but Barker remarked, "They haven't even offered me a DVD" of the show. Barker speculated that CBS chose to snub him in retaliation for his criticism of the network for"giving away prizes that I consider inappropriate." He said that he had complained to the network about awarding contestants tickets to Sea World and the Calgary Stampede. A lifelong animal rights activist, Barker said that those those groups "are notorious for animal abuse." Both groups claim that their animals receive exceptional care. CBS and Price Is Right producers declined to comment on Barker's remarks, AP reported.
