Cult rockers The Mars Volta have cancelled the remaining dates of their latest tour because lead singer Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is suffering from severe abdominal pains.

The band had a number of dates planned including a gig at London venue Somerset House last weekend (09JUL05).

Despite the setback The Mars Volta are resolved to be back on the road soon and are still planning to curate Britain's All Tomorrow's Parties festival in December (05).

A statement explains: "Band leader Omar Rodriguez-Lopez began experiencing abdominal pains at the tour's outset that have since become severe to the point of hampering his live performance and requiring immediate medical attention.

"The Mars Volta plan to resume touring this autumn, as special guests on System Of A Down's tour."
