Two iconic weapons from The Lord Of The Rings movies are on sale for up to $250,000 (£147,000).

Saruman's staff and Aragorn's sword from the fantasy franchise, belonging to actor Christopher Lee, are to go up for auction as part of a movie memorabilia sale at Bonhams in New York on 24 November (14).

Aragorn's sword, Anduril, is expected to fetch between $150,000 (£88,235) and $250,000, while Saruman's staff, which stands at six feet (1.8 metres) tall and is topped by a hand-blown glass orb, could sell for up to $150,000.

As well as the weapons, the auction will also include the clapperboard used in the final film The Return Of The King. It has an estimated price of $6,000-$8,000 (£3,500-£4,700).

Lee says, "(I have) treasured these important pieces of film history in my private collection (but) it is now time that someone else is able to enjoy their magic."
