The Libertines manager Alan Mcgee has blasted reports the British band have split following troubled frontman Pete Doherty's exile to France.

Doherty - who is currently battling his drug addiction in a Paris rehabilitation clinic - announced last week (ends28MAY04) he was quitting the group in favour of a solo career.

But Libertines boss McGee insists the band are not breaking up, despite axing an appearance at London's LOVE MUSIC HATE RACISM show this Sunday (06JUN04).

He says, "The Libertines are not splitting-up. Peter is in hospital and is getting treatment. His mum is constantly with him at present and she has been brilliant. We are all gutted about the LHMR gig.

"We are all really concerned about Peter as anybody would be about somebody they cared about. He is truly in really good medical hands so please stop the rumours.

"No one in white coats took him away, he went of his own accord. We need your support not stupid people posting nonsense about The Libertines. At the moment it's day to day as we are trying to get Peter well."
