Bosses at America's The Late Show were planning a special tribute to THE Beatles last night (09FEB04) to mark the 40th anniversary of the FAB FOUR's first TV appearance in the US.

Host David Letterman cut short his late night show to play the Beatles' first performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 in full.

The tribute will be made all the more special by the fact that the Letterman show comes from the Ed Sullivan Theatre, where the Fab Four made their historic US TV debut.
