The Kinks star Ray Davies is writing an opera.

The veteran musician has penned two musicals based around his band's hits, Come Dancing and Sunny Afternoon, which opened in London's West End last year (14).

Davies has now revealed he is working on a more highbrow stage show, and is hoping to land a meeting with an opera company to get his project off the ground.

According to the Press Association, Davies tells his biographer Johnny Rogan in his new book Ray Davies: A Complicated Life, "I think it's really important. I need to have meetings with opera people about it. I wrote the outline after I did Come Dancing. I've done some musical sketches for it. It's a collaborative thing. I'm not Puccini. Directors are so important in opera and I'd really like to write this one."
